Q + A

When should we arrive in Florence?

We are hosting organized wedding events in Florence on Thursday, May 8th & Friday, May 9th.

Where should we stay?

We've connected with a few hotels - affordable boutique, 3 & 4 star highly rated hotels, & luxury hotels - to confirm availability & status of the property. Traditionally, Italian hotels don't offer a room block but we have coordinated with Canto degli Aranci & Hotel Calimala for a discounted room rate; however, this is subject to their availability at the time of booking. Please see the 'Accommodations' tab for more information.

WHAT AIRPORTS ARE MOST CONVENIENT?

Florence Airport (FLR) is the closest airport to fly into. Other airport options are: Bologna (BLQ), Rome (FCO), , Milan (MXP) or Venice (VCE). Please see the 'Travel Logistics' tab for more detailed information.

What is the best way to get around in Florence?

The best way to get around Florence is by foot. Florence is a compact city and many attractions are within walking distance of each other. In fact, you can walk from one end of the city to the other in about 30 minutes. Taxis are also convenient. There are many taxi stands throughout the city center and in most major squares. Your hotel can call a taxi for you too. Uber and Lyft are not available in Florence. We suggest downloading Google Maps. You can use the transportation option on Google Maps to help plan local bus/train routes as well as the most convenient walking routes.

What are the passport requirements?

Please make sure your passport is up-to-date. 6 months validity recommended, at least 3 months validity after your date of departure from Italy is required. Current passport processing time is 10-13 weeks.

Credit Cards & Cash

We recommend traveling with a Mastercard, Visa or American Express credit card that has "NO INTERNATIONAL TRANSACTION FEES". Unfortunately most independent boutiques, restaurants, shops and some hotels do not take American Express. So while Amex is great to book your trip, we recommend bringing another credit card for while you are traveling through Italy. Most American banks have a partner bank in each European country. We do not recommend using an exchange service at the airport or in Florence as the conversion rates are terrible! Italy is still very much a cash country so for small purchases like coffee, pastries, etc, it is customary to use cash.

Will there be transportation to and from Villa di Maiano?

Yes! We will be providing transportation for all guests from Hotel Calimala in Central Florence to Villa di Maiano at 3:00 pm. We will then provide transportation back to Central Florence at the conclusion of the reception.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

We'd love to have you dress up with us! We are requesting Black-Tie Optional for our celebration!

Can I bring a date?

Your formal invitation will specify how many seats have been saved in your honor.

CAN WE BRING CHILDREN?

While we love your little ones, our wedding will be an adults-only event to allow all wedding guests, including parents, a night of relaxation and uninhibited revelry!

What are the packing essentials?

You'll need an outlet adapter! Power plugs and sockets in Italy are of type F. This socket also works with plug C and plug E. The standard voltage in Italy is 230 V, and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. Before using any electrical devices in Italy, make sure they are compatible with the higher voltage and frequency, and consider using voltage converters or transformers if necessary to avoid damaging your appliances. For the ladies, do not attempt to plug in your blow dryers to Italian sockets. That is a quick way to fry your Dyson airwraps.

What are the meal times & tipping ettiquette?

Italians eat later than Americans, with lunch around 1-2 p.m. and dinner from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Dinner often has multiple courses, so pace yourself. Tipping isn't expected as much as in the U.S., but leaving small change or rounding up the bill is appreciated. 10 - 15% is generally left for exceptional service.
